Pawleys Island down to Georgetown area was once thriving rice and indigo plantations and over the years wildlife refuges and parks have been developed to preserve natural habitats. So this is the area to head for to fully appreciate nature in it's proper and well cared for surroundings.

There are many opportunities to get close to animals and birds without encroaching and disturbing them.

If you are a golfer, courses have been laid out using the existing terrain where possible and there are no go areas in order to preserve the wildlife.
