Brookgreen Gardens
Brookgreen Gardens was founded in 1931 by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, to preserve the native flora and fauna and display objects of art within that natural setting.

Today, Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark with one of the most significant collections of figurative sculpture in an outdoor setting by American artists in the world and has the only zoo accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association on the coast of the Carolinas. Within its more than 9,000 acres are the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve, the Huntington Sculpture Garden and the Center for American Sculpture.

Huntington Beach State Park
A National Historic Landmark, the park’s freshwater lagoon, saltmarsh, maritime forest and beach are outstanding examples of the state’s natural coastal environment. These also provide such prime habitat for birds that the park is widely recognized as one of the best birding sites along the East Coast.

Huntington Beach is also the site of the historic Atalaya castle, the former winter home and studio of noted American sculptor, Anna Hyatt Huntington, and her husband, Archer Milton Huntington the founders of Brookgreen Gardens.

The prestigious Atalaya Arts and Crafts festival is held here each September.

Hobcaw Barony
Made as a royal land grant in 1718, Hobcaw Barony was eventually subdivided into 14 individual plantations. It became the winter residence of Wall Street millionaire and presidential adviser Bernard Baruch. His daughter, Belle, purchased all of the barony over a period of several years and at her death a foundation was created to use the 17,500 acre wildlife refuge for the "purposes of teaching and/or research in forestry, marine biology, and the care and propagation of wildlife, flora and fauna in connection with colleges and/or universities in the state of South Carolina."

Guided mini bus tours run 2 or 3 times a week and we do have some complimentary places available when you book your holiday through us.

see our page on Hobcaw Barony for more.

Kaminski House - Georgetown
Located in the heart of Georgetown's Historic District, Kaminski House was built C1769, and contains an outstanding collection of American and English antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Hopsewee Plantation
A National Historic Landmark, Hopsewee is the birthplace of Thomas Lynch Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Built in 1740, the house is a typical Lowcountry rice plantation dwelling. Hopsewee is a preservation rather than restoration and has never been allowed to fall into decay. Only four families have owned it and it is very much the same as when first built. The privately owned home is open from attic to cellar and is furnished with 18th and 19th century furniture.
Plantation River Tours
Plantation River Tours offers scenic boat tours along historic plantations of South Carolina's beautiful Lowcountry rivers with narration by a local historian. Departing from Wacca Wache Marina in Murrells Inlet, you'll see rice plantations, trunk gates, slave cabins, moss laden oak trees, alligators, eagles and osprey.

Rice Museum - Georgetown
Exhibits include dioramas of the rice culture, the Browns Ferry Vessel of 1730 and a film "The Garden of Gold" telling the story of the rice culture in Georgetown County.
