To give you some idea of the quality of golf in the Low Country it boasts no less than 11 of the top 100 public courses in America according to Golf Digest Magazine.
Bear in mind, unlike the UK, most courses in the US are public so this is a significant number. Hilton head boasts Harbourtown, number 14, home of the Heritage Classic PGA Tour event, while the Ocean Course, 8, at Kiawah Island close to Charleston will be well remembered for the 1991 Ryder Cup.
Pawleys Island has three in the list – Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, 58, "the Augusta of the Carolinas" has won more awards than any other course in South Carolina, True Blue 93, and Heritage Club,78.
In the Myrtle Beach area there are no less than 6, Barefoot Fazio, 81, Barefoot Love, 38, River's Edge, 83,Tidewater, 67, Tiger's Eye, 41, and the Dunes Beach & Golf Club 39,which for many years hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship.
